Symbiosis/ Symbiotic Bacteria
Symbiosis is the relationship of two or more organisms living and interacting closely (from sym meaning ‘‘together’’, bio meaning ‘‘life’’ and sis meaning ‘‘processes’’). Symbiosis is always inter-specific (occurs between different species), intra-specific relationships (relationships within a single species) cannot be described as symbiosis. Symbiotic Bacteria are bacteria that that have a mutualistic relationship with another host, organism or bacteria. One example is the bacteria that live inside the human digestive system. The microbes break down food and produce vitamins that humans need. In return, the bacteria benefit from the stable environment inside the intestines.
